I think I’m on the right scent here...
The Daily Telegraph. Uk
Venus Wong attends a Berlin workshop that gives her the chance to create her very own fragrance. I only buy perfume when I’m travelling, both for sentimetal and costeffective reasons. I remember the first bottle of perfume I owned, acquired in Lisbon: a whiff of the (sadly now expired) scent brings back memories of sprinting down the mosaic pavements in Baixa, giddy with my milestone “adult” purchase.
Smells like summer
InStyle
That's it with Chanel No. 5! We now wear No. 44, not by Chanel, but by Frau Tonis Parfum! Because the perfume "No. 44 Fig" of the Berlin fragrance manufactory smells soooo delicious after summer. When you spray it, you feel like being on the Côte d'Azur under the hot sun of France - isn't that gorgeous?!
Scents in the city

Situated in the heart of Berlin, Frau Tonis Parfum offers fragrances designed to evoke places, times or memories. “People often say they wish for a perfume that will make them more seductive or sexy, and that’s not what we’re about at all”...
...“We want a fragrance that does something for you, not just how other people perceive you. Sometimes we say it’s like we look into the diaries of our customers. We want to hear about memories and hopes and desires”says Stefanie Hanssen, the owner of Frau Tonis Parfum.
Perfume against Trump
Die Presse Schaufenster - Vienna
Independent perfume experts in Berlin and Vienna: Their attitude to President Trump unites Pauline Rochas and Stefanie Hanssen.
Just a few steps away from the tourist attraction Checkpoint Charlie on Berlin's Friedrichstrasse, the operator of another niche perfumery brand also mentions her grandmother as an important point of reference: Stefanie Hanssen even named her luxurious fragrance label "Frau Tonis Parfum" after that, namely, " because she taught me the love for the beautiful things and also the idea of beautiful fragrances ".

Berlin's niche perfume brand Frau Tonis Parfum, whose handcrafted fragrances counter the big corporate names by eschewing extravagant ad campaigns and letting their scents do the talking, further play into the unique and personal through the unveiling of their edgy Berlin scent box.
A triptych of sensual essences, the box contains three distinct perfumes that are presented in laboratory vials.Oud Weiss which conjures up a combination of incense, amber and oud resin, Bogota Berlin fused together figs, cedar wood and violet leaves; and Aventure, a mix of vetiver and patchouli with a heady hit of spicy rose pepper.

The scent of the past
The Hindu
Fragrances can trigger memories, we´re wired that way. ...Experts at Frau Tonis, Berlin´s world-renowned perfumery, believe nostalgia has both emotional and spiritual significance. They believe that many fragrances arouse pure emotion; for example, Oud (derived from Agarwood) arouses devotion.
For this writer, Oud Weiss, an oriental classic with subtle hints of sandalwood and tobacco, is a trip back to moonlit desert soirees by Bedouin herdsmen, and the robust single-stringed Rababah.

The olfactive DNA of Munich, Hamburg & Berlin
Scentury
Scentury: How did the idea of developing a perfume for each of the KaDeWe Group’s three premium department stores in Hamburg, Munich and Berlin come about?
Stefanie Hanssen: The KaDeWe Group very much liked our philosophy: “Scent As Inspiration.” A selection of our scents have been available at the Berlin KaDeWe store since 2014 and since the policymakers there found the chemistry with us very good, they asked us to develop three exclusive scents on their behalf — and we were of course delighted to do so.

As an ode to the buzzing metropolises of Germany, the KaDeWe Group have created three special edition, unisex fragrances capturing the spirit of Berlin, Hamburg and Münich.
The perfume house behind bottling the German zeitgeist, Berlin-based perfumeur Frau Tonis Parfum, has created a series of signature fragrances playing on the characteristics of each individual city.
Berlin, a sweet yet sexy mix of Bergamot, lemon and water lilies stands in stark contrast against Hamburg, elegantly masculine, with notes of mint, sandalwood and iris. We particularly love the vibrating scent of Münich, an eccentric mix of Bergamot, white tea, rose, coriander, amber and musk.

For Stefanie Hanssen, it was her grandmother’s unique rose perfume that inspired her to open Frau Tonis Parfum, a chic perfume boutique around the corner from Checkpoint Charlie. The shop’s best-selling fragrances evoke the Berlin of the Roaring Twenties: take their blend Linde Berlin No.1, for example, loaded with the sweetness of the blooming linden trees along Unter den Linden.
Even more popular is pure Violet No.37, a scent composed in memory of Berlin’s legendary Marlene Dietrich. And if none of the three dozen options suit your tastes, you can take a scent test and try your hand at blending your own. Frau Tonis also invites guests to take a unique olfactory journey during a private perfume workshop for two: for €99 you get to bring home a bottle of your personal perfume and other treats.

“Berlin in a bottle”

While reviewing the Berlin Street Style – A guide to urban chique, I came across a few comprehensive beauty pages. Excited to explore all of Berlin’s hidden beauty treasures Frau Tonis was one of many that caught my cosmetics minded attention.
Frau Tonis Parfum Berlin is a one of a kind perfume brand. The Wall Street Journal refers to it as: “ Berlin in a bottle”. If you are a perfume lover this should be one of the first addresses to run to when visiting Berlin to get your senses prickled by room scents and out the box perfume mixtures.

There a few things as powerful as scent to arouse a vivid memory. For Stefanie Hanssen, it was her grandmother's unique rose perfume that inspired her to open Frau Tonis Parfum, a chic perfume boutique around the corner from Checkpoint Charlie. She carries a blend patterned after that unforgettable heady fragrance, as well as several scents that were inspired by Berlin itself.
The one called No. 10 is loaded with the sweetness of the blooming linden trees that line Unter den Linden, one of the city's grandest streets. Even more popular is No. 37, a replica of the vintage violet-heavy scent worn by Berlin legend Marlene Dietrich. And if none of the three dozen options on offer suit a buyer's tastes, custom blends are available.

That's the most beautiful scent for the winter
ELLE
Legend has it that a different scent was created for the Egyptian queen every day - unfortunately we do not have the resources. On average, Germans buy about three fragrances a year. The season plays a big role. While in summer you prefer fresh and fruity compositions, winter may be warmer and heavier.
So it`s perfect that our favorite niche fragrance manufactory Frau Tonis Parfum created "No. 30 Thé Arabique ". The Eau de Parfum smells beautifully heavy and spicy with black tea, dry Irish whiskey, ripe quince, musk and vanilla. On the skin the scent molecules turns into their soft side. The best: "No. 30 Thé Arabique "by Frau Tonis Parfum is unisex – that means it is suitable for both men and women.

But that’s me! Babies’ skin? Morning dew? Jasmine? Frau Toni’s perfume shop in Berlin helps you in your search for your own personal favourite fragrance. Since finding my favourite perfume, I’ve been a snob. No longer do I sniff the perfume bottles in duty free shops, or pounce on newly launched products.
...But then I stumbled across Frau Tonis Parfum, Stefanie Hanßen’s port of call for fragrance aficionados on Berlin’s Zimmerstraße, not far from Checkpoint Charlie.

Europe´s freezing climes inspired its perfumers to experiment with oud. "Our clients favor warm, spicy, earthy and embracing fragrances to escape cold and dark winter days. Oriental perfumes such as our NO. 19 Oud Weiss are preferred," explains Stefanie Hanssen, owner of Berlin´s celebrated Frau Tonis Parfums, and one of Europe´s leading noses.
Indeed, oud combined with bergamot, sandalwood and cedar, Oud Weiss breathes notes of tobacco and incense, and unfolds gently with amber, like the tender embrace of a loved one.

Heaven Scent: KaDeWe's Berlin Fragrance
Berlin&I
What does Berlin smell like? Well, according to KaDeWe, it's citrusy, with notes of bergamot and cardamom over a cedar wood base, and the scent of water lilies to round the whole thing out.
KaDeWe has just teamed up with trendy Berlin perfumery Frau Tonis Parfum to create limited edition fragrances named after three major German cities: Berlin, Hamburg and Munich. The perfumes, which are available in editions of 50ml, are designed to evoke the particular personality of each city, with Berlin described as 'spirited and shimmering'.

Stephanie Hanssen, the founder of Frau Tonis Parfum, believes in fragrances that tell a story. Her boutique perfumery in Berlin is best known for its hand-blended concoctions that effortlessly evoke everything from a summer stroll along the city's leafy Unter den Linden boulevard to the seductive charm of the Roaring Twenties.
The newly introduced 'Bogota Berlin' fragrance is a fitting follow-up to these successes. It’s an homage to Hotel Bogota, an iconic institution where master photographer Helmut Newton once learned his way around the camera. Like the artists and creatives that rendezvoused in the now-defunct hotel, Bogota Berlin is a fascinating medley of accords that ostensibly don’t typically go together – think violet, cedarwood, Indian white pepper, figs and bergamot from Grasse.
The alluring mixture is fresh and exudes an eccentric elegance. In a fitting nod to the thrills of adulthood, the fragrance is numbered 18 among Frau Tonis' collection. The bold lettering on the otherwise unassuming flacon serves well to highlight this.
The 411: Stefanie Hanssen

Stefanie Hanssen’s earliest scent memory is the clover in her family’s backyard. “I was born in a mining town at the end of the sixties. The air wasn’t particularly clean, but I remember the green freshness of our field,” she says. That unaffected appreciation of fragrance is woven into the DNA of Frau Tonis Parfum, the artful Berlin perfume shop Hanssen opened in 2009.

Is it a coincidence that two perfume lines reflecting family traditions originating in Germany have both reached me here in Brooklyn at about the same time?Perhaps not, as the number of perfumers from the region increase and are becoming more known in the US at the same time.
These two are both manufacturers from start to finish of their own perfumes, evolved in this present day to be aesthetically direct, down to earth, focused, and streamlined.
